3 Odor Control Tips for Pet Owners

We have been spending more time with our families and pets at home. All that quality time has been great for bonding with all of our family members, but the time indoors may have made you realize that your pets may be causing some unwanted odors and affecting your air quality. You don’t have to put with the stink! We have suggestions on how to improve the pet odor in your home.

1. Bathe and Groom Your Pet

Shedding is a natural and healthy process for your pet. You can help prevent the hair from ending up all over your home by grooming your pets regularly. Bathing, brushing and manually deshedding your dog or cat can keep their natural shedding to a minimum and reduce dander, giving you less to clean up around your home. If debris and dander does make it’s way into your HVAC system, it can cause it to move around your house and to areas that may be pet-free zones such as bedrooms if you don’t have an upgraded filter or air purification system.

2. Change Your Filters

Cats and dogs are notorious shedders. Even if you have a non-shedding variety, the dander they produce can become problematic. Those small particles can get caught in the filters blocking airflow through the vents and shortening the filters lifespan. This can affect the overall efficiency of your system and your indoor air quality. Be sure to check those filters regularly. They may get clogged more frequently based on seasonality and your dogs or cats shedding schedule. HVAC systems that include HEPA filters are ideal for filtering pet dander out of the air.

3. Consider an Air Purification System

If you’re particularly worried about the air quality in your home, consider getting an air purifier. Consistent exposure to pollen, dust, dander, and other airborne particles can cause long term allergies and other breathing and health issues for you and your family. The PureAir system removes 99.9% of mold spores, pollen, dust and pet dander and more than 95% of fine particles absorbed by the lungs down to 0.3 micron. In addition to particles, it also removes 50% of household odors including pet and litter box odors. An air purifier in addition to keeping your pet and home clean can help keep the air in your home clean, breathable, and safe.

No need to put up with animal stink in your home. With a few simple tips, you can improve the HVAC efficiency in your home and improve your indoor air quality.
